Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
I think he will be a good fit for them. I think he would have been a good fit for us last season, what with the EL. But that ship has sailed. Good luck to him.

Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
Alex,

Bournemouth were fined 7.6m (ffp) after promotion. So I very much doubt they would do it again. Their ownership now seems balanced (1 minted russian + US equity investment fund, firm plans for new FOOTBALL stadium) if a rather unknown quantity.

But that's my point: if they are being prudent, they may well now NEED to sell. (What the fuck is £15m signing Jordan Ibe doing there? Putting out cones? I'm not suggesting we bid, mind...)

Whether the Defoe deal is good football business for THEM remains to be seen, but I'm not exactly surprised.

In the "utterly reckless" stakes, we can undoubtedly hold our own. Yet, of course, we're also "2bob".

Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
On a free transfer you couldn't deny Defoe a 2 year deal after the season he had and to be fair I would still probably have taken him on a 2 year deal even at the reported 85k a week.

Still banging them in for a shit side at his age and would of automatically become the best finisher at our club. Better strike option than anyone at our club as well as he would at least be available to start games.

Will probably turn out to be an excellent signing for Bournemouth.

Ah well, e valencia is coming back.. PLEASE SOMEONE ANYONE BUY THIS CLUTS

Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
An utterly absurd deal - well done Sully for having nothing to do with that sort of deal. Now what was it we were offering Zabaleta again?

For all the praise Bournemouth have got their actions financially have been utterly reckless. I won't say I want them to be found out as they seem a nice-enough club, but sooner or later the house of cards will collapse there. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were in administration or worse in a few years time.

They've just got £100m from this season and next season's TV money so I doubt they have to worry about that.

I reckon the only people mentioning FFP over the summer will be the lying cunts in charge of West Ham London.

"Priced himself out of a move here with ridiculous requests for a player his age"

Haha! Patently not true. We pay Fonte 60k. Goalscorers command a premium. We just don't know what we want. Again.

`Easy for an old player to break down`

I'd say Defoe's injury record might be a tad bit better than our current centre forwards... even for an ancient old cunt

Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
Priced himself out of a move here with ridiculous requests for a player his age. I'm not convinced he's a fit for how we play anyway. The majority of our forward play is in the air and I can't remember him getting a headed goal.

Easy for an old player to break down and take a long time to come back which is almost guaranteed if you come to our club. No loss to miss out IMO.

Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
The quoted 130k has been quickly sliding. Now it's £80k, some say £65k. Who knows, but you could "guestimate" 20m inc wages for three years (the third being an option).

What did we bid in January again? It's not a crazy deal at all in current market. English. Goals guaranteed if the team creates chances.

Bournemouth may now have to sell, though. Small income, been done for ffp before.

I think this will turn out to be an excellent signing for Bournemouth.

Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
Too early to say this is a bad deal. Its an expensive one no question, but if he scores 15-18 goals next year, 10 to 15 the year after, and 5-10 the year after that will be hard to argue they didn't get their monies worth.

Time will tell but he could keep scoring goals in a diminishing way for another 3 years as an in the box type....main man next year and transition to impact sub.

If he does that they'll have done well for their gamble.

Chigwell 5:17 Wed May 24
Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
What Eddie Howe recognises in Defoe is a player who keeps himself fit, finds aggressive positions on the pitch, wastes no time turning possession into a goal attempt, and can strike the ball accurately and powerfully with either foot. Having a consistent threat like that in your team bolsters confidence. If only our management could think and act as decisively.

Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
I'd say it means that even our owners are thick enough to pay someone of his age that amount of money for that length of contract.

The very fact we pulled out indicates that we have someone better already lined up.

Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
I imagine the quoted £130k includes a massive signing on fee spread over the contract period.

Either way it's a stupid amount but I'm please he has gone there as I was worried he might end up here

Thought he was DESPERATE to come "home"....

Right the wrongs etc? Would jump at a move? Was only a "kid" back then.

Oh whats that, 130k a week? HI EDDIE

Trevor B 8:17 ~

I was rather hoping we'd sign him but not on the terms he's demanding

I have to disagree though regarding his pace. Though it's commendable that he's stayed so fit for his age, there were definite signs that he was losing his pace in the second part of the season

He would have been perfect for us on a 2 year contract & a sensible wage

Sven Roeder 12:20 Wed May 24
Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
Didn't the genius Eddie Howe pay £10m for Afobe?

I was happy to take Defoe on a years contract on a free at a reasonable wage.
When it becomes 3 years @ £130k (was supposed to be £115k last week) a week plus £6m signing on fee I am well and truly out.
Not sure how much Bournemouth have to spend but that commitment is going to take a fair chunk of it.

I cannot believe I'm reading the word "toppy" on here. I thought only my corporate bollocks spouting MD used that word.

Trevor B 9:01 Tue May 23
Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
He was always going to get a minimum of a 2 year deal as that's what's left on his Sunderland contract. But three years is a bit toppy, especially on 130k if true.

Re: defoe - gone to Bournemouth
Apparently getting a 2 or 3 year deal. Fuck that!
